The prime time for turning off the TV

Posted

At Francis X. Hegarty Elementary School in Island Park, third and fourth graders and their adult sponsors turned back the clock for one evening and enjoyed time away from their televisions and gadgets at the school’s Prime Time event. The night is designed to promote the love of reading. Throughout the evening, participants engage in reading and other interactive activities.

Prime Time begins with students and their sponsoring adults spending some quiet time together reading to one another. Then they participate in several hands-on workshops including origami, calligraphy, Tae Kwan Do, bingo, Navajo sand painting, Wii dancing, card making, gym fun and felt bookmark crafts. The workshops were led by teachers, parents and community members, and everyone had a great time.
