Trouble for the LIRR morning commute

Posted

There will be no Long Island Railroad service on the Long Beach branch for morning rush hour Monday Jan. 25, and no service from Jamaica to Atlantic Terminal.

The railroad reported additional work in clearing snow from the tracks is required before service can be restored on the four branches that remain suspended – Far Rockaway, Hempstead, Long Beach and West Hempstead. Customers on these branches are advised to use alternate LIRR service on branches where service has been restored.

Nice buses and Able Ride will be running.

The LIRR will restore service on most LIRR branches for the AM Rush starting at 5 a.m. on Monday. Regular weekday service will be provided on the Babylon, Ronkonkoma, Port Washington and Huntington/Port Jefferson branches. Service will also be provided in LIRR diesel territory on the Oyster Bay and Port Jefferson Branches, between Greenport and Ronkonkoma, and the Montauk Branch west of Speonk.

There will be no service between Jamaica Station and Atlantic Terminal for the Monday AM Rush. LIRR customers normally bound for Brooklyn should take LIRR service to Penn Station where LIRR tickets will be cross-honored by NYC Transit on the No. “2” and “3” trains to Brooklyn.
