Assemblyman Ed Ra, of Franklin Square, invited veterans to attend his free annual Veterans Barbecue, which was held at the Franklin Square VFW Post 2718 on Lincoln Road in Franklin Square in the afternoon on Aug. 10. Veterans were invited to bring one guest.

"It is important for us to give back to those who defended our country," said Ra. "This is why every year I host a free BBQ for veterans, not only to thank them for their service, but to provide them with crucial information on the benefits and services they are entitled to receive."

In addition to the free barbecue, representatives from the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency and the Northport Veterans Association provided information on services available to veterans. The Nassau County Clerk's Office was there to enroll veterans in their Veterans Recognition Program, which once the veterans register with the program and record a copy of their discharge papers, or DD214, with the Nassau County Clerk's Office, they receive discounts from participating businesses.
