We should remember Sept. 11 on Sept. 11

To the Editor:

The Oceanside Interfaith Council scheduled the 9/11 Interfaith Memorial Service on Sept. 12. Last year it took place on Sept. 10. I strongly disagree with holding this memorial service on any day other than Sept. 11.

Pearl Harbor Day is always Dec. 7. Flag Day is always June 14 and Independence Day is always July Fourth. On each of these days, we come together as Americans to commemorate important events in our nation's history. Sept. 11 should be no different. It was a momentous occurrence in our nation's recent history, a tragedy from which we are still healing and one that we cannot afford to forget.

I appreciate the efforts of the Interfaith Council to recognize the horrible events of Sept. 11, 2001. We should commemorate that day on its actual anniversary.
