Community events

St. Agnes Mothers’ Club Garden Potpourri

On Oct. 8, the St. Agnes Mothers’ Club will hold the Garden Potpourri from 10a.m –2 p.m. at 45 S. Marion Place. All are invited to enjoy shopping for homemade crafts, seasonal gifts, fall flowers, delicious baked goods and festive Halloween items. Relax with friends and have a lovely breakfast or lunch at the Calico Café. Visit the Harvest Kitchen to purchase homemade jellies, jams, salsas and more. In the event of rain, the Garden Potpourri will be held at the Parish Center on N. Village Avenue. For more details, call (516) 594-1315.

St. Mark's Pumpkin Patch

The stately lawn around St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 200 Hempstead Ave. has been transformed into a country-style pumpkin patch that will run through Oct. 31. Its hours on Monday through Saturday are from 10 a.m. until dusk. On Sundays, it’s be open from noon until dusk.Special events at the patch this year include pony rides on Saturdays Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. ($5 a ride). Also on Saturday, Oct. 10 there will be a “Live WKJY” 98.3 Radio Broadcast from the patch from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. “The Haunted Patch” will be open on Oct. 24 from 6 p.m. — 9 p.m. In addition, Granny’s Attic, mums, refreshments and other delights will always be available. Mother/Daughter Day

On Oct. 12 (Columbus Day)Lucille Roberts Gym, 298 Sunrise Highway, will host a free Mother/ Daughter event from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.. All women with daughters 12 and older are invited. For non-members, this event promotes having fun while getting fit. Throughout the day, there will be special workout classes, talks concerning nutrition, and fun facts about health.
