2010 roadwork gets a boost

Congresswoman McCarthy helps village get $500k

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy recently announced a $500,000 grant for the Village of Rockville Centre’s annual road projects.

The money, part of the departments of Transportation, Treasury and Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill, will be used by the village for its 2010 Roadway Project. McCarthy, who represents New York’s Fourth Congressional District, helped secure the funds.

“This is great news for Rockville Centre,” McCarthy said in a release. “Improving and rehabilitating our infrastructure is extremely important. Not only will the village be able to improve safety on the roads and sidewalks, but this funding will also create jobs.”

The money will be used in the village’s 2010 Roadway Project, which is scheduled to include Gateway, Fenway, Intervale, Winding Road up to Greystone, Kent Court, Dorset Lane, Leeds Court and Rodney Place.

The village follows a two-stage process—initiated in 2006—to confirm when curbside trees need to be removed during roadway reconstruction, which includes the preparation of the roadbed and the replacement of all curbs and driveway aprons and which may include replacing the water mains and other infrastructure.

“We’re glad to hear that the grant application has been advanced,” said Village Administrator Frank Quigley. “We’ve just been informed of this announcement from Congresswoman McCarthy’s office. We’re reviewing how to use the money once the terms of the grant are made clear.”
