North Village Avenue fence to be replaced

One of the village’s longstanding eyesores is finally slated to be cleaned up.

Nassau County recently awarded Rockville Centre a $75,000 grant to purchase and install fencing on county property along North Village Avenue. The small strip of land runs south from where Village Avenue starts, at Peninsula Boulevard, to Lexington Street — about a mile and a half.

“Once again, the Village of Rockville Centre is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to receiving grants and donations to improve our community,” said Mayor Francis X. Murray. “I would like to thank Legislator Howard Kopel for his help in securing this $75,000 grant. This fence will greatly improve the aesthetics of the area, and will be an attractive gateway into our village.”

The North Village Avenue border has been an eyesore for a long time. In February, county workers cleaned it up, removing some of the gnarled plants and downed trees, but a long, broken chain-link fence was left in place.

The grant will allow the village to put the work out to bid. It accepted the grant at its meeting on July 14. Once the county signs off on the grant, the work can be bid out.
