The Association of Fundraising Professionals Long Island Chapter (AFPLI) is pleased to announce that Susan and Marty Bevilacqua, residents of Rockville Centre, will be honored as recipients of The Horace Hagedorn Outstanding Philanthropist award at Philanthropy Day 2014 — Nov. 14. This award recognizes an individual or family whose generosity inspires others to give and make a difference in the Long Island community by actively advancing philanthropy.

The Bevilacquas are generous and actively involved benefactors of many Long Island organizations in education, the arts and social services. Their community-based philanthropy has touched more lives than can be counted, from students at The De La Salle School, to audiences enjoying Long Island Opera performances to supporting the Sandel Senior Center in Rockville Centre. Their tireless and enthusiastic support of their community has enriched the quality of life on Long Island.

Marty Bevilacqua is an active alumnus of La Salle Military Academy and was instrumental in the founding of The De La Salle School: a tuition-free, donation-driven middle school for economically disadvantaged boys. In addition to their own generous donations, the Bevilacquas provide support through fundraising and working on committees for the various De La Salle galas, luncheons and golf outings. Several years ago, Susan prepared a full Thanksgiving dinner for the entire school and Marty enjoys hosting a yearly alumnus Thanksgiving Feast and Football game. Susan, who is an attorney, initiated the formation of a Mock Trial team that participates at the St John’s University Law Schools’ Mock Trial Tournament. She is involved in everything from coaching the team to even making sure they have the right clothing to wear.

Susan is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Molloy College and assists with luncheons and galas for the Rockville Centre Community Fund, Old Westbury Gardens, the Rockville Centre Lions Club and the Rockville Centre Education Foundation. Susan is a tutor with Literacy Nassau, teaching adults to read. In addition, she is a yearly participant in Soldier Ride, a 25 mile bicycle route that benefits the Wounded Warriors Project. Marty is also active with the Wounded Warriors, contributing to the cause with enthusiasm and conviction.

The Bevilacquas are both patrons and active participants in the arts. Susan and Marty are involved with South Shore Symphony and the Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts, helping to raise awareness and taking part in a variety of fundraisers. As owners of Oceanville Mason Supply, their generosity to the Long Island Opera Society knows no limits.
