Fishing Clinic

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the RVC Recreation Department present the annual freshwater fishing clinic at Hempstead Lake State Park on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are exhibits, contests, and prizes. The fee is $6 per person for anyone 12 or older. Take the first left inside Hempstead Lake State Park from the Peninsula Boulevard entrance. Call (516) 766-1029 for more information.

Golden Gathering Health Fair

Senator Dean Skelos will hold his 10th annual Golden Gathering Senior Health Fair on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rec Center. Attendees can get free flu vaccinatiors at the fair. Those interested in more information can contact Skelos's office at 766-8383.

Mural Painting Contest

Boys and girls in grades 4 through 8 must register by Oct. 16 at the Recreation Center for the annual contest on Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. The Halloween artists are invited to paint on paper that is taped to the lobby and auditorium walls of the Recreation Center, 111 North Oceanside Road. Plaques are awarded by a distinguished panel of judges.
