St. Agnes student gets his acting start as Tiny Tim

“Well, he’s definitely the right size for the role,” said Rockville Centre resident Tracy Kirley about her son, Kevin, auditioning to play Tiny Tim in a Plaza Productions version of “A Christmas Carol.”

He performed in the role at four different productions of the play throughout December.

Kevin, 10, said he’s a bit older than the rest of his friends, but he’s also a bit shorter.

“I just thought he’d be a good fit for me because in the movies he’s always smaller than everyone else,” he said. “I can relate to that.”

Like most kids trying to figure out their interests, the young St. Agnes student has been trying out a number of different activities – from cooking to baseball – to see what he likes and what he doesn’t. He recently found an interest in acting after trying it at summer camp.

“A Christmas Carol” was officially Kevin’s first stage play. He thought he would be nervous during his first time as Tim, but his fears evaporated once he got on the stage.

After watching various film versions of the story, Kevin realized how important Tiny Tim’s character is to the play. “He changed Scrooge’s ways,” he said. “He made Scrooge a better person.”

Kevin sees himself continuing to act in the future. “I’ll definitely keep doing it,” he said.

His advice for anyone who wants to pursue his or her interests but might be afraid. “If you want to do it, you should do it.”
