A fatal car accident on Peninsula Boulevard on May 9 left a Brooklyn man dead.

According to Nassau County Police Department detectives, two commercial vehicles were traveling at 6:50 a.m. south on Peninsula, near the section of Eagle Avenue, when one, a 2007 Isuzu street sweeper, struck the rear of the other, a 2001 International Harvester truck.

The driver of the truck said the impact sent him into another lane, where he was then struck again by the street sweeper. The sweeper than struck the center median and flipped over, landing upside down.

Police said that the driver of the street sweeper, Nathaniel Burns, Jr. of Brooklyn, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was taken to Mercy Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Both vehicles were impounded for safety inspections.

Nassau police said that the investigation is ongoing, but that there appears to be no criminality.
