Anna Costello, a resident of the Rockville Nursing Center on Maine Avenue, died on Jan. 27.

Born on July 22, 1914, to Richard and Ann, Anna liked to crochet and was known for her pillows and kitchen towels. She was a devout Catholic who always carried her prayers and rosary beads with her. In a time when email was just on the horizon, Anna was an avid letter writer, keeping in touch with friends and family from around the U.S. She loved “The Wheel of Fortune” and Charlie perfume.

At her funeral, more than one of the mourners sported leopard print, in honor of Anna's love of leopard print clothes. Her grandchildren remembered baking chocolate chip cookies Nana's way — dumping in all the ingredients at once to make tiny

little bumpy cookies.

Anna, who also lived in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Woodhaven, Queens, is survived by her five daughters: Therese (Gerard) Wollweber of Rockville Centre; Bernadette (Richard) Siegler of Lynbrook; Kathy (Michael) Doherty of Staten Island; Regina (Anthony) Marino of Malverne and Miriam (Jerry) Paxton of O'Fallon, Missouri. She leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband, James Costello, Anna also had seven siblings, brothers Richard, Thomas, Joseph and William and sisters Gertrude, Veronica and Marie.

Services were held on Feb. 1 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne, followed by burial at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village.
