Arrest in Rockville Centre hit and run

A Uniondale man was arrested in connection with a hit and run accident that caused serious injuries that took place on Sunrise Highway early Sunday morning.

According to detectives from Nassau County’s Homicide Squad, Jamal Mabry, 25, was driving a blue Chevrolet Impala westbound shortly after 3 a.m., when he hit a 22-year-old male pedestrian walking north, toward the Long Island Rail Road station. The accident took place as the victim was crossing the six-lane highway at the intersection of N. Park Avenue. After allegedly hitting the man, police said Mabry left the scene.

Rockville Centre police officers, who were nearby, immediately responded. The victim was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.

A subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of Mabry, of 545 Armond St. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, and was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead later on Sunday.
