Budget adjustment

Posted

Members of the Rockville Centre Board of Education voted at the Feb. 9 meeting to increase the current 2009-10 school budget by just under $1 million to reflect the actual unanticipated contingent expenses the district has incurred. This was done, said board President Mark Masin, on the advice of counsel. The extra expenses during this school year have been caused primarily by rising special education costs that include out-of-district placements and mandated additions to individualized curriculums (IEPs) for special education students, as well as new costs for garbage pickup from the schools. The actual amount added to the budget — with no impact to the tax levy — is $992,500, bringing the total 2009-10 school budget to $91,057,500.
