Chosen to be frozen

Rockville Centre’s Boy Scout Troop 40 braved freezing weather and drippy noses over Presidents Day weekend at the Teddy Roosevelt Council’s annual Bluenose camping trip.

A small group of older Scouts, each of whom had been trained for cold weather camping, took the trip up to Onteora Scout Reservation in the Catskills, where they exemplified the troop’s motto, “Forty below and we still go.” The group learned to snowshoe, build snow shelters and keep warm in bitter temperatures, and came away with an award for building the best sled.
