Congregation B’nai Sholom-Beth David in Rockville Centre hosted its annual Casino Night fundraiser at the synagogue on Nov. 4, to help raise money for the temple. The evening featured everything from slot machines to table games, including blackjack, craps, poker, roulette, and more.

Since all of the proceeds from the event will go to help the temple fund essential programs and its ongoing charity work, there were a tremendous amount of prizes and raffle gift items that were given out to the evening’s biggest winners.

“It was a great opportunity to have a fun night with members of the congregation and the broader community,” Rabbi David Lerner said. “It was also a great opportunity to honor several people who have helped serve the community.”

This year’s festivities recognized several honorees including Rockville Centre Village Trustee Emilio Grillo and his wife, Christine, for their years of dedication to the community.

“We had a wonderful time,” Emilio Grillo said. “We are very close with many members of the congregation, so for us, it was an extreme honor.”

The event also recognized congregants Brandon Melendez and his wife, Samantha, for their years of continued support and commitment to the synagogue.

Each of the honorees were also presented with a shofar, an ancient musical instrument made from a ram’s horn that is used during the Jewish high holy days of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, and is symbolic of spirtual reawakening.

“It was a great success,” Grillo said. “We are extremely humbled to have been selected as honorees and to have the opportunity to be involved in such a wonderful evening.”
