EAT.SHOP.ROCK returns to Rockville Centre June 4

Street fair will feature local businesses, talent

EAT.SHOP.ROCK is returning to the village on June 4, and it’s going to be bigger than ever.

This will be the third year of the Chamber of Commerce’s street fair, which exclusively features Rockville Centre businesses. The chamber decided to do away with the old fair, which brought in vendors from all over, to focus on village businesses and everything they have to offer.

“The vision of having all local shops, entertainment and food has really seemed to resonate with our residents,” said Greg Schaefer, Chamber president.
Park Avenue, from Sunrise Highway south to Lincoln Avenue, will be closed from noon to 9 p.m. for the fair. Patrons will be able to dine on the sidewalks of their favorite restaurants and shop at booths set up by many of their favorite stores in town.
More than 80 businesses will be participating this year — the most ever — so there will be even more for residents to take in as they stroll Park Avenue.

The chamber is also doing something new this year. While the fair will remain free, the chamber will be selling VIP tickets for $125 each. Purchasers will get a gift bag with coupons to EAT.SHOP.ROCK vendors, access to a private VIP area, a pair of official EAT.SHOP.ROCK sunglasses, discounts at Jeannine’s Boutique, free raffle tickets and free drinks at many of the participating restaurants, like Parlay Gastropub, Press 195 and the Beach House.

There will be two stages, with performances going on most of the afternoon. This year, Miss Colleen’s Elite Dance Centre is sponsoring the second stage, and will feature dances and many other performances. The Kid Zone, which activities for children, will be bigger than it has been in the past.

There will be raffles during the fair, and the money raised will be donated to local charities. It will fund three scholarships at South Side High School and one at Molloy College for local students. The chamber also plans to donate money to the Tommy Brull Foundation, which is helping to fund the Challenger Playground on Sunrise Highway. It will be a handicapped-accessible playground where children of all abilities will be able to play together.
