Enchanted winterland

Following the success last year of “Enchanted Winterland,” the Rockville Centre Community Fund's new fundraiser, Mayor Mary Bossart, the honorary chair of the event's steering committee, said the second annual Enchanted Winterland will be held in the Ballroom of the Best Western Hotel on Jan. 31 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Founded in 1987 by former Mayor Eugene Murray, the RVC Community Fund is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to helping residents of the Village of Rockville Centre who have emergency financial needs. The fund responds quickly and confidentially to requests for assistance or to referrals by friends and neighbors of individuals facing financial difficulties. Financial support for the RVC Community fund comes primarily from the Mayor’s Annual Golf/Tennis Classic in the fall.

Last year, Enchanted Winterland raised more than $8,000, and the sold-out event featured a luncheon and a guest speaker presentation about the Titanic by Leighton H. Coleman III the author of “Polar the Titanic Bear.”

This year the Enchanted Winterland will feature a special guest star, Kate Campbell Stevenson, who delights audiences all over the world with her portrayal of women historical figures, in full costume, make-up and with historical accuracy. It’s an entire stage show, bringing the audience back to the time of Sacagawea, Bessie Coleman and Eleanor Roosevelt. These women will come alive right here in Rockville Centre in Stevenson’s portrayal. Enchanted Winterland will again offer guests a sit down lunch, and coffee and dessert. Seating must be reserved in advance, and tables of up to 10 persons are available. Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for students under the age of 18.

Special vendors, including Barnes and Noble, the sponsor of a special “meet the author” and book-signing by Maureen Sullivan, author of the children’s book, “Custard and Mustard,” will be on hand. Raffles and other treats will also be available for all ages.

Mayor Bossart is again working with the Enchanted Winterland Steering Committee from last year — Joan MacNaughton, Patricia Quinn and Jeanne Mulry. Mark your calendars for this special event. Invitations will be going out the first week in January.
