On June 8 at 2:07 p.m. Michael DelGiorno, 49, from East Islip, suffered an apparent heart attack while he was driving a delivery truck eastbound on Sunrise Highway, approaching Morris Avenue.

His truck collided with a parked vehicle. Rockville Centre police officers and members of the Rockville Centre Fire Department responded within a minute or two. attempting CPR and using a portable defibrillator. DelGiorno was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We were in the store, we heard a big crash and a truck hit a parked car knocking down the tree and coming up on the sidewalk," said the owner of Plaza Seafood.

"One of my suppliers and a Coach Realtors employee from right next door ran outside with me to see if anyone was hurt and then we checked the driver and we noticed he wasn't doing too well. At that point everyone else — police, fire department and paramedics from the North Shore ambulance took over. It was unfortunate and sad."

The owner of the parked car, from Baldwin, had been eating lunch nearby.
