The Lynbrook and Rockville Centre Fire Departments teamed up on June 26 to extinguish a car fire on Merrick Road on Lynbrook, on the border of Rockville Centre.
The driver escaped his Jeep by leaving it in the roadway when the engine went on fire at about 7:15 p.m.
No injuries were reported, according to the Lynbrook Fire Department, and the fire was quickly
under control. Traffic heading west on Merrick Road from Sunrise Highway was backed up for more than 45 minutes.
