Dr. Daniel Murphy, Mercy Medical Center’s director of Emergency Services and its senior director of Patient Care Operations, has been installed as 2011 president of The Friends of Mercy Medical Center.

Murphy, a Garden City resident, accepted a small bust of Theodore Roosevelt that signifies leadership of the organization in a Jan. 20 ceremony at Frank’s Steaks on Lincoln Avenue.

Murphy joined Mercy in 2004 as director of Emergency Medicine and was given the additional responsibility of senior director of Patient Care Operations in 2008. He has been an active member of The Friends from the start of his association with Mercy, and he and his wife Marie, were Chair Couple of the Mercy Ball in 2006.

Founded in 1935, The Friends is a men’s organization dedicated to the advancement of medical and surgical care for Mercy Medical Center’s patients as well as construction at the hospital. They raise funds by sponsoring three major events each year – a Gentlemen’s St. Patrick’s Dinner, set for March 11; a Golf Outing scheduled for July 26 and The Mercy Ball held each year on the first Saturday in December. In the past four years, The Friends have raised over $1.25 million in support of the hospital’s facilities.
