Glitter... and gold...at Rockville Centre's Sandel Senior Center

Posted

Once again the Sandel Senior Center was transformed into a glittering casino with an array of delicious food, an open bar, professional dealers, entertainment and prizes for its annual Monte Carlo Night fundraiser on April 30. The guest of honor was Patricia Huber, founder, president and CEO of Better Home Health Care on Merrick Road, who is an active and involved Rockville Centre

resident.

“It was an amazing night,” said Robin Heaney, president of the Friends of Senior Services Inc., the group that organizes the event. “We had a tremendous crowd and I think everyone had a wonderful time. It seemed like everyone was having such fun at the tables and enjoying the jubilant atmosphere.

“Our honoree is a really gracious woman who richly deserved the honor,” Heaney added

Chris O’Leary, deputy director of Senior Services agreed. “I think we had the biggest turnout ever. We had nearly 250 ticket purchasers and by far the best party in town!

“There were more big sponsors this year than ever before. I think people are concerned about proposed cuts to the center, and also our honoree, Pat, brought in a lot of those big sponsors through her business connections,” O’Leary added. “It was a very successful fundraiser.”

O’Leary said that Maple Pointe Assisted Living catered the event, with 11 staff members who served passed hors d’oeuvres and dinner. Rich McQuillan from Links Realty was the cocktail sponsor, donating $1,500. Capital One Bank gave a $1,500 donation. Francis Murray also donated $1,500. And Signature Group was the dessert sponsor with a $1,500 donation, as well. Chris and Mary Beth Kearns donated $1,000.
