A Nassau County jury took about three hours to convict a Hempstead man of burglarizing a Seaman Avenue home last November.

Nishon Parson, 36, was found guilty on June 12 of second-degree burglary. He faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 27.

According to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, at 11 a.m. on Nov. 29, Parson and another man broke into 212 Seaman Ave. when no one was home. A neighbor witnessed the men entering the home through a back window and called 911. A Rockville Centre police sergeant responded to the scene within minutes and saw electronics piled up at the home’s door. Entering the house, the officer confronted Parsons and his accomplice.

Parson pretended to comply with the officer’s commands, but both men then fled the scene. After an hour-long chase on foot, during which Rockville Centre police were joined by the Aviation Unit of the Nassau County Police Department, Parson was found several blocks away hiding under a tarp in a shed that was within the perimeter that police had established. His male accomplice is still at large. A second suspect, Pamela Scales, 27, of Roosevelt was arrested on Dec. 2 in Hempstead and charged with second-degree burglary She was due back in court on June 19.

In addition to the electronics, police at the scene said they found the victim’s safe on the floor of his closet after it had been ripped out of a wall panel, and the kitchen and den of the home were completely ransacked.

The jury rejected defense claims that Parson had given his friend a ride to the house, and only came inside after his friend had already broken in and ransacked it.

“The jury was able to see through the defendant’s lies and excuses and get to the truth,” Rice said. “This defendant could not hide from his actions, and he will now be held accountable.”

Parson’s attorney, Eliot Bloom, was unavailable for comment. Assistant District Attorney Christina Singh of the County Court Bureau prosecuted the case for the DA’s office.
