Third grade students from Hewitt Elementary School paid special tribute to senior veterans when teacher Lisa Koluch joined forces with music teacher Melissa DeLaVega to visit Atria Senior Living in Lynbrook on Nov. 10.

Accompanied by Principal Liz Pryke, and family and friends, the children performed a selection of patriotic songs including “The Star Spangled Banner,” “Anchors Aweigh,”“The Halls of Montezuma” and “God Bless America.”

Grateful veterans shared the spotlight when they stood up and related their own memories of their service to their country. Other third grade teachers David Ferrone, Angelica Nicotra, Jill Shuldman and Special Education teacher Rachel Vyskocil agreed that Hewitt’s visit drove home the importance of acknowledging those who have given so much to protect our country and its citizens.
