Lions Club to hold Dinner in the Dark

Posted

On May 1, the Rockville Centre Lions Club will be hosting its Fourth Annual Dinner in the Dark fundraiser.

The Dinner in the Dark is a special event that challenges people to eat a single meal like a visually impaired person would: guests wear blindfolds while they eat to know the struggles that the visually impaired go through every day.

One of the missions of the Lions Club is to aid those who suffer from visual impairments. It supports programs that help prevent blindness, restore eyesight and help those in need.

The Dinner in the Dark is one of the largest fundraisers the Rockville Centre Lions Club holds each year. This year, funds raised will go to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which helps fund research into childhood cancer, as well as the Good Counsel Home in Roosevelt, which is a group home that answers the needs of families and young mothers.

The dinner will also honor Rockville Centre residents Barbara Ann Dillon and Matthew Lindsay.

A resident of Rockville Centre since 1974, Dillon attended St. Agnes Elementary School and Sacred Heart Academy. A graduate of Molloy College, she earned her law degree from Hofstra University School of Law and is admitted to the New York State bar.

Raised with a commitment to public service and community, Barbara Ann is a proud member of the Rockville Centre Lions Club and also participates in numerous volunteer activities including student mentoring for middle school students, providing interview coaching and interview practice for law students entering the job market and has recently volunteered with the Nassau County Bar Association’s Mortgage Foreclosure and Superstorm Sandy Recovery Consultation project. Dillon also serves on the Hofstra Law Alumni Association’s Career Services Committee.

She especially enjoys providing pro bono legal work to clients in need or religious, charitable, and other nonprofit entities.

Lindsay is a lifelong Rockville Centre resident, born in Mercy Hospital, and currently owner of Lindsay’s pub. He comes from a large Rockville Centre family, with his parents, siblings, and many nieces and nephews living close by.
