Lions Duck finds new home in Rockville Centre

Posted

The journey is over, and the Lions Club Duck has found its new home. Brianna Diele, 8, of Rockville Centre, was first to solve the Jumble in the April 21-27 issue of the Herald, correctly guessing that the Rockville Centre Lions Club Duck has landed, and will be featured at the Recreation Center’s annual Kids Fest on

Sept. 17.

Lions Club organizers say they wish to thank Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tony Brunetta and the Recreation Center staff for helping the Lions Club Duck build its new nest for the first RVC Lions Club Duck Pluck in its new location.

The theme of this Duck Pluck will be “Ducks for Diabetes.” For a $5 donation, you can sponsor a duck at the fundraiser. Starting now, contact one of the “Duck Central” locations, visit the RVC Lions Club website, www.RVCLions.com, or be on the lookout for Lions Club volunteers around the village.

For that $5, your sponsored duck becomes eligible to win you any number of prizes at the Duck Pluck. The top prize is a trip for two to Ireland, second prize is $1,000 cash, and there are many additional prizes, including gift certificates, toys, home goods and electronics.

The Lions Club website also offers sponsorship opportunities. Anyone interested can call (516) 764-1775 for more information. Donations are tax deductible and all funds raised at the Duck Pluck will go directly toward good works in our community.

The Rockville Centre Lions Club continues to partner with area hospitals to support diabetes awareness and education, including Mercy Medical Center, Winthrop-University Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Long Beach Medical. The Lions Club also supports a variety of other local charities, including the Rockville Centre Community Fund, the RVC St. Patrick’s Parade, the RVC Youth Council, Adopt-a-Family, Boy Scouts, Autism Speaks, Easter Seals and many others.
