Mercy Medical Center's golf outing drew capacity crowd, generous donors

Bright sunshine matched the spirit of generosity of sponsors and attendees that enabled The Friends of Mercy Medical Center to raise $69,000 at their 29th annual Golf Classic.

A capacity crowd of 140 golfers enjoyed play on July 26 at the Cherry Valley Club in Garden City, followed by a dinner paying tribute to Rockville Centre resident Stephen McLoughlin — vice president of Command Financial in Manhattan and past president of The Friends —- for his many years of service to the medical center and many other community organizations.

With principal sponsorships from Neurological Surgery, P.C., Hunter EMS Ambulance, First American Title and Brian Powers, the Golf Classic this year was again co-chaired by Joseph and Thomas Graham of Rockville Centre, co-founders of JJT Energy, a firm supplying natural gas to commercial and residential markets.

The proceeds from this year’s event will support the acquisition of new state-of-the-art diagnostic cardiology equipment. Over the past five years, the Friends have raised nearly $1.5 million to support hospital facilities, including new digital mammography equipment in the Women’s Imaging Center; enhancement of the medical center’s Emergency, Trauma and Express Care facilities, including a new Express Care radiology suite; and the 2006 completion of the hospital’s state-of-the-art North Pavilion.
