On Monday, Carl Perryman, one of Rockville Centre’s most notorious residents, was acquitted of attempted murder in County Court.

Perryman, 23, a South Side High School dropout, was accused of shooting John Bush, 47, last July while the two were walking on a footpath at the rear of Old Mill Court. Police said that Bush was shot numerous times in the face and neck with a handgun. He was rushed to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

After the shooting, Perryman fled to the home of a relative in Lamar, S.C., where he was apprehended on Aug. 10. Nassau County police brought him back to New York on Aug. 17.

This is Perryman’s second acquittal in the space of a year. He had also been arrested and charged with the 2008 murder of a childhood friend, David Baez. During that trial, witnesses who were expected to testify against Perryman suddenly changed their stories. The prosecution argued that Perryman threatened them into altering their testimony, and the judge agreed, saying that their original statements would be used in lieu of their testimonies. Nonetheless, last April Perryman was acquitted of the Baez murder.

The Nassau County district attorney’s office had no comment.
