There were more than 200 children registered, and nearly 400 in attendance on Sunday for the Rockville Centre Recreation Department’s first-ever Fall Kids Fest.

“It was a huge success,” Karen Polito, superintendent of Recreation, said. “We were nervous because this was the first time we were doing it, but everyone had such positive thing s to say about it and thanked us for putting it all together.”

It was a day filled with spooky fun that included a haunted house, games, crafts, photo ops and a special guest DJ. Although it is only the middle of October, costumes were encouraged and embraced by many who attended.

Polito said that due to the ongoing construction in the back of the John A. Anderson Recreation — where they usually hold their annual Halloween parade — they decided to bring the festivities inside this year.

“I think it worked out for the better,” Polito said. “The kids loved it.”
