Returning New York to a path of fiscal stability: A meeting to assess changes

Posted

On April 14 I will host a meeting in the Rockville Centre Public Library to discuss the need for meaningful reform with representatives from two state agencies and former Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman.

I am pleased that the columns published in the Herald to date have served as the basis for this meeting, with reader response and interest in this subject beyond expectations. Thank you. This forum is also timely to assist in understanding that some real changes are taking hold that might, just might, restore some level of sanity to the egregious problems that have persisted for years in Albany. The meeting will also afford me the opportunity to explain the use of a new website to facilitate communication between vested interest groups and concerned individuals. Last but not least, I will close with mention of eight specific recommendations that require both your awareness and support.

The guest speakers are David Kidera, director of the Independent Authority Budget Office in Albany, who will review how new legislation is fostering change in the operation of the states’ Public Authorities.

Dennis Tompkins, director of communications for the Office of the State Comptroller, will discuss financial concerns “Now more than ever – the need to make every taxpayer dollar count.”

Finally, Weitzman will review Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposal to consolidate local governments.

Look for the flyers being distributed by the library for more information. Again, the date is April 14 and the meeting will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

Leave your frustrations at the front desk, and join us. The “good guys” will be in the building.
