The board of trustees approved Molloy College's application to rent 200 parking spots in Municipal Parking Field 12 on Sunrise Highway for the upcoming semester. The move, by a vote of 4-1 came during the July 20 Board of Trustees meeting at the Recreation Center, which lasted into the wee hours of July 21, after extensive public comment for the repeal of the legislation banning pit bulls and Rottweilers.

For the nine months from early September to May, the college will lease the spots for $43,000 and will provide shuttle bus service back and forth from the campus to the parking field.

Many parking spots on campus have been sacrificed during the ongoing construction of the college's new Public Square, student recreation center and first-ever residence hall. The construction of the 57,000-square-foot student center and Public Square is expected to be completed in spring 2011. The residence hall construction is expected to be completed in fall 2011.

The terms of the lease run from Sept. 9, 2010 to Dec. 17,2010, and from Jan. 19, 2011 to May 13, 2011 on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. A Molloy campus safety officer will be stationed at the parking field to facilitate parking from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p. m. to 7:30 p.m.
