At its re-organizational meeting on July 2, the Rockville Centre School District’s Board of Education appointed trustees to new positions. The board is now: President Tara Hackett, Vice President Susan McNulty, Secretary Kelly Barry and Trustees Liz Dion and John O’Shea.

Hackett assumed the position of president after O’Shea served two years in the position. “She’ll do a great job,” said O’Shea, who is serving his 10th year on the board. “All the trustees work great together and are committed to success.”

Hackett is entering her third year on the board. She has two young sons in the district, one in the middle school and one in elementary school. Her main goal for the new school year is to keep an open line of communication between the board and community members. “Write to us, call us, come to meetings,” she said. “We want to be here to represent the community.”

McNulty is also entering her third year on the board. She has a son in the middle school and a daughter in elementary school. She’s excited to make positive changes in the district this coming school year.

“There’s a lot of work to do,” she said. “Really, the big goal is to continue to work with administration to move in a successful direction and enhance programs for children.” McNulty added that the board plans to be an advocate for parents and students in the district.

“We bring back community comments and say to administration, ‘this is what we’re hearing, this is what people want,’” she said. “And then, ‘how do we make this happen?’”

The board meets Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the South Side High School Commons Room.
