People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

Matthew L. Garland, 31, of Brooklyn Avenue, Baldwin, was arrested on Feb. 19 and charged with vehicle traffic law violations after police say they saw him speeding while traveling west on Sunrise Highway at N. Lewis Place.

Troy T. Pittman, 29, of Oakland Street, Hempstead was arrested on Feb. 20 and charged with criminal trespass and a bench warrant when he allegedly refused to leave a N. Village Avenue medical center after repeated requests by security personnel.

Salvatore Orobello, 40, of Lawrence Street, Farmingdale, was arrested on Feb . 21 and charged with assault after what police said was a disturbance in a Sunrise Highway hotel.

Attempted robberies

On Feb. 19 a Flushing man reported an attempted robbery by a man when he went to a Sunrise Highway hotel to make a food delivery. According to the deliveryman, he was punched by the man and possession of a gun was simulated. Nothing was stolen and the suspect fled the scene on to N. Centre Avenue in a dark car possibly occupied by two others.

n Also on Feb. 19, police responded to Lister Field for a reported large disturbance involving many youths. Four teenage boys told police that three teens — unknown to them — tried to rob them during the incident. They had fled before police arrived at the scene.

The Rockville Centre police and Nassau County First Squad detectives are investigating both incidents.

Burglary

On Feb. 20, responding to a burglar alarm, police found a broken front door at a N. Park Avenue deli. Cigarettes and an undetermined amount of money were taken without permission.

Larceny investigations

On Feb. 17, a West Hempstead resident reported the theft of her 2003 Mercedes E-320 from the parking lot of a Hempstead Avenue medical building.

Also on Feb. 17, the manager of a Sunrise Highway caterer told police that her pocketbook was stolen from behind the counter while she was working on Feb. 15.

On Feb. 19 a Vernon Avenue resident reported that his van was damaged and property was stolen while it was parked in Municipal Parking Field 3.

An East Rockaway resident told police on Feb. 20 that her purse was stolen in a N. Park Avenue bar after she had left it in a bathroom stall.

Property damage

A Massapequa Park woman reported to police on Feb. 19 that her car was damaged while it was parked at a Sunrise Highway diner.

On Feb. 19, a Valley Stream man told police that on Feb. 19 his car was damaged while it was parked at a supermarket on Ocean Avenue.

And on the same day, police found a parked car with a damaged passenger side window that was parked in Municipal Parking Field 3.
