Former Rockville Centre Fire Department Captain Peter Kaiser was one of 24 local volunteer firefighters honored with a Firematic Award for their courage and dedication at a special Town of Hempstead ceremony on Oct. 20.

In remarks at the ceremony, Supervisor Kate Murray said, “Service is just a way of life for Ex-Captain Peter Kaiser of the Rockville Centre Fire Department. Whether it be for community, the environment or for his country, Peter is here to serve.

“Peter has proudly served in the Rockville Centre Fire Department for 46 years. He rose through the ranks, serving as 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant and Captain and he has served on multiple company committees. He remains active in the Fire Police Squad and maintains his Class A firefighter status.

“Peter proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and he does his part for the environment by volunteering to hike and clean nature trails in upstate New York.

“Peter relishes his role as an experienced department member, acting as a role model for young firefighters, sharing knowledge with other members and fostering respect between young volunteers and their older peers.

“Peter often assists in the day- to- day tasks and repairs at the station and he continues to attend regular training sessions,” Murray added. “Recently, he was the first to don his equipment and perform an important training demonstration.

“Peter’s passion and dedication help motivate his fellow members, as they see a senior member continuing to give his all in the firehouse.”
