On May 18, Rockville Centre’s Girl Scout troops gathered at the St. Agnes Parish Center to honor the record-number of scouts that had received their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
This year, 74 girls earned their awards: 51 Bronze Awards, 16 Silver Awards and 7 Gold Awards — the highest award in Girl Scouting (equivalent to an Eagle Award in Boy Scouts). Usually, only two or three girls earn a Gold Award in a year. Less than 2 percent of Girl Scouts nationwide earn the Gold Award.
Not only was this year’s award ceremony a record for Rockville Centre, but it was also the highest number of awards for any single Girl Scout Association in Nassau County.
