Rockville Centre Letters to the Editor

The library is wonderful

To the Editor:

The Rockville Centre library never disappoints. Over the years, the interior has been tastefully upgraded and the technology has kept up with the changing times.

One thing, however, has remained constant: the staff at the Circulation Desk. They always greet patrons with a smile and a bit of conversation. How old-fashioned. How small-town. How wonderful. May it always be so!

Visit the new Firefighters’ Memorial

To the Editor:

On Nov. 30, the members of the Rockville Centre Fire Department, along with elected officials and guests, dedicated the new Firefighters’ Memorial Park, next to the Reliance Hose Company firehouse on North Forest Avenue.

For those residents who might be unaware, the entire project was funded by donations — no taxpayer money was used. The park is a beautiful tribute to the more than 1,000 Rockville Centre residents who have donated their time as volunteer firefighters and EMTs since the RVCFD was founded in 1875.

There are scores of committee members, local residents, laborers and financial donors who made this all possible, but special thanks should be given to former RVCFD Chief Louie Franco, who came up with the original idea and was the driving force to get this project moving and completed. The park is a testament to his dedication and vision — along with all those who lent their time and effort — to recognize the many unsung volunteers who roll out every time that alarm sounds.

The next time you’re in town, swing by the park, located between Maple and Lake-view avenues, and stop for a visit. It will be well worth your time.
