Complaints won’t fix parking

To the Editor:

The parking changes on Seaman Avenue have nothing to do with the March 13, 2013, BZA hearing on GM Burger Bar, located on Long Beach Road (“Parking changes spur complaints,” July 30-Aug. 5). The BZA cavalierly waived the code restrictions on GM Burger Bar for an additional 10 parking spots.

According to Village Administrator Keith Spadaro, people have to understand that when they bought their houses on Seaman Avenue, they knew that it was a pass-through block to Baldwin. He said he changed the parking restrictions without asking the residents. He knew they would not want it.

The administrator said the merchants asked him why there was no parking on Seaman Avenue. He said there was no good reason, and it only affected eight parking spots on Seaman. So he changed the parking restrictions.

One of the trustees said it was a matter of public safety because of speeding, double parking and the dangerous intersection of Long Beach and Oceanside roads at Monroe Street.

In my opinion, once again, there was no input from the residents and no traffic studies, just input from the merchants and a village executive decision. The village moved the responsibility for GM Burger Bar to provide 10 spots directly to the residents of Seaman Avenue. The village changed the eight parking spots in front of their homes, putting the safety of their young children at risk.

The talks started in February and they continue today, and the village board asks for patience and the restrictions are still there. I wish I did not know this, but the restrictions against the residents on Seaman Avenue will not be changed.

Fed up with all this political correctness

To the Editor:

Those of us who are supporting businessmen Donald Trump for president are supporting him for many reasons. We are fed up with politicians who make promises and, when elected, do nothing. We are fed up with Congress, Washington, state leaders, local politicians and corruption. We are fed up with political correctness.
