We shouldn’t rename Skelos Field

To the Editor:

I believe Dean Skelos worked hard for Rockville Centre, including the effort to get the sports complex built. Any parent knows how, in an effort to help their child, sometimes we get carried away and let our emotions interfere with good judgment.

We do not need to add insult to injury by renaming the complex. Have pity — he is suffering enough.

Time for Bishop Murphy to retire

To the Editor:

I just saw the movie “Spotlight.” It moved me and I want to offer how it made me feel.

It is time to close the book on the most troubled times in the Catholic Church in America. In 2002, a documented history of child abuse in Boston dating back to the early 1970’s was printed by the Boston Globe. Cardinal Bernard Law was described as the main character in the story.

That year, the Pope called the cardinal back to the Vatican, a kind of retirement. It is time for Pope Francis to call Cardinal Law’s secretary, Bishop William Murphy — who oversaw the reassignment of sick priests in Boston back to the Curia — on his 75th Birthday. The bishop can go back to his first love: working for The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, a kind of retirement.

Maybe then the final chapter of our healing in the American Church will end.
