Rockville Centre Letters to the Editor

Congrats to SSHS basketball

To the Editor:

I want to applaud the South Side High School basketball team on its magnificent season. Our community was treated to a fantastic display of their talent. Their athleticism, determination, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship were a great example to us, especially our youth.

During the Elmont game, their tenacity reminded me of the great South Side teams of the 1970s. Seeing them fight for rebounds, take charges and drive to the hoop through, around, between and over the solid defense made me remember why I love basketball so much.

Congratulations on a great season.

Rockville Centre

Awed by Rockville Camera

To the Editor:

I was traveling home the morning of the blizzard in late January, admiring the beauty of the snow and the tranquility it provided. As I continued my drive east on Sunrise Highway, I was struck by the absolute desolateness of Rockville Centre. There wasn’t a car or person to be seen.

Then I came upon Rockville Camera, and was bewildered as to why its lights were on. I have been a fortunate customer of these talented, educated and kind technicians, and I was concerned. I called and Garrett, the owner, immediately picked up with his usually calm and friendly manner. I inquired if he was all right. He answered nonchalantly, “Oh yes.” He explained he had a customer come in the day before in dire need of something to be done for an occasion that day, and he had come in to complete it and deliver it.

A noble act worthy of mention, and a reminder that selflessness does remain. And this is all in addition to superb craftsmanship.
