Loved Red and Blue section

To the Editor:

Thank you so much for the wonderful issue commemorating the 100th anniversary of Red and Blue. As the proud Nana of Megan Dacek, 2012 Red Team disco dance coordinator, and Phoebe Dacek, 2015 Red Team captain, I enjoyed every moment of the preparations and competitions, especially as the team prop was built at their house from 2012-2015!

I wonder how many readers are aware that the 1960 Red Team captain, Doris Kearns, grew up to be Doris Kearns Goodwin, the historian and famous author of “Team of Rivals: the Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” and “Wait Till Next Year,” the memoir depicting her years growing up in Rockville Centre?

Again, thanks for the memories.

Thank you for beautiful article

To the Editor:

I was so deeply moved by the article “They overcame fear because of faith” in the Feb. 11-17 issue. Daine Taylor, its author, told the story of four clergymen of differing faiths who went down with the transport ship Dorchester when it was attacked by a German U-boat in the Atlantic Ocean in 1943.

These four men of faith put aside their differing beliefs and united as one. In the end, they each made the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow men. They gave their lifejackets to others while the ship sank, and sang hymns arm in arm until their inevitable end.

In our world today, we witness what seems to be a never-ending war of religions. This article demonstrated that with true faith, love is born and people of all religions may come together as one.

This article touched me unlike many others, and I have since shared it with friends and family alike. Each person who read it was touched and was reminded of our fallen brothers and sisters. This story also served as a reminder of how men and women of the cloth serve to support, uplift, guide and, in this case, put the lives of others ahead of their own.

Thank you for a beautiful piece. I believe it has left a lasting mark on my soul.
