Dealership isn’t helping residents

To the Editor:

GMC LLC applied for a major change approval from the Board of Zoning Appeals to the former Morrissey GMC dealership at 510 Sunrise on March 9. The applicant said there would be no negative effects. but improvements to the existing parking, garbage and service parking areas.

In October 2014, the BZA approved Morrissey to start renovations to improve the property, but there have been no visible improvements to the property to date.

Today, Ongley Street is a war zone, with double-parked cars, cardboard strewn across the street and no available parking on Sunrise Highway, Ongley Street or Montauk Avenue due to illegally parked dealership cars.

The board asked two question of former Trustee Peter Rubin about the proposal, and closed the meeting. The residents of Ongley Street would be disrupted permanently. The board met on March 30 knowing the proposal is bad for the residents but good for the friends of the board and Rubin. They will most likely render a vote for approval. The deal is done in spite of the owner’s pledge two years ago to clean up and fix parking. GMC LLC will be approved, and the vote will not be recorded on the village TV station.

Middle class has had enough

To the Editor:

Neither the media nor mainstream Republicans or Democrats truly understand why Donald Trump is leading in the polls. It’s really simple. The majority of moderate voters are fed up with both parties and the extremists on the far right and left.

We are fed up with the broken promises, lies, corruption and a non-working government that never seems to come together on anything. We’re fed up with bad trade deals and illegal immigration. We’re fed up with drugs and guns pouring over our borders. We understand that people are born gay, so stop telling us that homosexuality is a sin. We’re all pro-life, but understand that there are times when women have to make very hard decisions.

We also believe it’s not our place to judge people, so if you’re truly a conservative, let God be the judge on these issues, and not you. We understand how bad our educational system is and how much we spend, but we also understand that both parties are the reason for the failure, and not the teachers. We also understand that taxes are out of whack and that we can’t afford to pay for everything. We know that Obamacare isn’t working for us. We’re also fed up with everyone telling us that Trump is no good.

We see a bright and successful businessman who can’t be bought. He has a beautiful family, and tells us he’ll make America great again, and we, the people, are saying yes. We elected a movie star once, and that turned out OK, so now it’s time to elect a successful businessman, and not another hand-picked career politician. Stop calling us names for supporting Trump. We are smart middle class people who play by the rules but have simply had enough.
