I’m not Honey or a ‘guy’

To the Editor:

I very much enjoyed Randi Kreiss’s column “The new familiarity: Just don’t call me Honey” (March 17-23), on her discomfort with being referred to as “Honey” by strangers. My pet peeve, as a 62-year-old woman, is being referred to as “Guys” by restaurant staff when I’m out with my 64-year-old husband. I may be many things, but a guy isn’t one of them.

I’m also bewildered by being exhorted to “Enjoy!” when I’m served my meal. Apparently it’s too much to expect the full sentiment, “Enjoy your meal” or “Enjoy your dinner.” It seems to me that should be part of Restaurant Training 101.

We also notice that, more often than not, the staff checks back to see if we’re enjoying the food when my mouth is full. My husband thought I was being overly sensitive, until we actually started keeping track. We concluded that the staff was primarily interested in his opinion — the probable check payer and tipper, despite the fact that I’m a working woman, perfectly capable of both paying and tipping.

A ‘satisfied customer’ of Tire Town

To the Editor:

I have been living in Rockville Centre for more than 30 years. In that time, my wife and I have owned many cars and needed tire care, or tires, for all of them.

I’ve been using Tire Town for the last few years because they are scrupulously honest and charge fair prices for their tires and service.

I have no doubt that I could buy tires somewhere else for a little less, but the savings wouldn’t amount to anything meaningful or make any change in my lifestyle. Using a local business that I can trust does.

Everybody has their own criteria when shopping. I appreciate the value of having a really honest and competent local business close by.

I have no relation or affiliation to them, I am just a satisfied customer.
