The Rockville Centre Lions Club hosted its 12th annual Duck Race and fall fair at Centennial Park at Mill River on a beautiful recent October Saturday. In total, 4,000 rubber ducks set sail on Mill River in a competition for who would finish first during the afternoon event.

A service organization, the Lions Club is dedicated to fighting for the blind and helping those affected by diabetes, both locally and globally.

Ed Asip, the new president of the local chapter, said that rubber ducks for the race were sold throughout the village for $5 during the month of September. A grand prize of a trip for two to Ireland was awarded to the winners of this year’s race. A performance showcase for children and teens, “So You Think You Can Sing,” was a new addition to this year’s event.

Admission to the afternoon of fun was free of charge, and participants had the choice to purchase tickets for food and the talent show. Leading up to the race, attendees participated in a variety of activities organized by the Lions Club volunteers, including hay rides and pumpkin painting.
