Rockville Centre Memorial Day Parade returns

The residents of Rockville Centre marched through the streets of the village and into Veterans Park at the Recreation Center on Monday to commemorate those who have given their lives in the United States’ military.

American Legion Post 303 member and World War II veteran Herb Rosenberg served as grand marshal, riding in a green convertible and waving to the hundreds of residents lined up to thank him for his service.

In his 100 years, Rosenberg has seen everything from a German POW camp to the recent pandemic, but his spirits remain high.

“I just wanted to say to the heroes I represent thank you and God bless America!” Rosenberg exclaimed at the ceremony.

American Legion Post 303 led the way on the march that started on North Centre Avenue and went on to Maple Avenue. The Rockville Centre Police and Fire departments, Scout Troop 40, Daisy Scout Troop 826, the Rockville Centre Little League, the South Side High School Wind Ensemble, and more joined the local veterans.

“In a time when we search for heroes, all we need to do is remember the bravery of these extraordinary men and women,” Mayor Francis Murray said. “As Americans, we need to continue to preserve, protect, and value the freedom and peace these men and women fought to preserve just for us.”
