Rockville Centre recognizes Wendy Weinstock as Employee of the Month

Rockville Centre’s Labor Management Committee is resurrecting a program that acknowledges employees of the village who go “above and beyond,” according to Dr. Cyd Charrow, director of the Department of Senior Services and Employee Development.

The committee’s most recent choice as Employee of the Month is Wendy Weinstock, social work supervisor in the Department of Senior Services.

For many years, Weinstock has played a major role in training village personnel in employment policies dealing with harassment, retaliation and workplace violence prevention, devoting countless hours to planning and training. She has also assisted in other areas of employee development, most notably as the village’s deputy employment officer. In this role she has consulted on and conducted sensitive investigations for the village.

“Recognition of Wendy’s significant work, outside the structure of her regular job, is long overdue,” Charrow said. “I recommend, therefore, that Wendy Weinstock be our next Rockville Centre Employee of the Month.”

Kathy Weber, principal account clerk in the Electric Department and a member of the village’s Labor Management Committee, which chooses the award recipients — but does not meet every month — recalled others who have received the tribute. In December 2010, 19 members of the Electric Department were honored for their work during that March’s nor’easter.

The following month, three employees of the Cashiers Department received awards for their work in cleaning up after the ceiling of their office leaked — while carrying on with their regular duties, which included interacting with the public.

In February 2011, the village recognized Sanitation Department employees for exemplary service in digging out from the blizzard of Dec. 26, 2010.

James Driscoll, of the Rockville Centre Sanitation Department, was the April 2011 Employee of the Month, described as a conscientious, hard worker who performed duties beyond his job description and was the first to step up in emergencies.

Anne Sheppard, the village’s purchasing agent, was recognized in January 2012 for her diligence in the Purchasing Department and the help she gives everyone through the often complicated bidding process.

In May, employees of the Payroll Department received recognition for their work with W2 tax forms, entering new tax and deduction codes.

Peter Grandazza of the Purchasing Department was the June recipient of the award. He offers services wherever there is a need and has an attitude that has been described as “outstanding.”

Marie O’Hara of the comptroller’s office was recently nominated for the award by many of the people who work in her office, after she took on additional responsibilities while others were out on medical leave, handling their work calmly and cheerfully while tackling her own duties.
