Rockville Centre resident makes a difference for children

Rockville Centre resident Lisa Mack was one of six volunteers honored for their work on behalf of children in the community by the National Council of Jewish Women, at its annual spring luncheon on May 5.

As a consummate volunteer leader who makes a difference in society, Mack became active with Island Harvest and the Rosa Lee Young Child Care Center on North Village Avenue. After leading successful fundraising efforts on behalf of Rosa Lee Young that, with substantial support from the NCJW’s South Shore Section, succeeded in obtaining a much-needed school bus for the center, Mack was tapped to serve as president of its Board of Trustees.

A registered dietician, she is married to her high-school sweetheart, Dr. Larry Mack. The couple have two children — Benjamin and Gabrielle — and several dogs.

Still actively involved in the NCJW’s South Shore Section, Mack has been both vice president of services and vice president of membership. Fellow NCJW members say she is always helping out with a drive, collecting for the needy. Her interest in helping the less fortunate is a daily part of her life as she is always instrumental in bringing food and necessary items to local shelters.

The NCJW, which is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the well-being of children, teens, women and families through programs and advocacy, also honored the Child Care Council of Nassau Inc. and Planned Parenthood of Nassau County. The group is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, the NCJW strives for social justice and works to safeguard individual rights and freedoms.
