Rockville Centre school briefs

About the budget...

Rockville Centre school Superintendent Dr. William Johnson said there was “not a whole lot to say” about the proposed 2010-11 spending plan of $93.5 million that if adopted by the Board of Education, will go to a vote on May 18. He said administrators are preparing for the Preliminary Budget Hearing on April 20 and will hold a meeting before that with district principals to get a better look at what staffing throughout Rockville Centre schools will look like next year.

Johnson said he is still hopeful that the district can make a recommendation on April 20 that is lower than the proposed 3.89 percent increase over the voter-approved 2009-10 budget. And he reiterated that without a New York state budget that was due on April 1, there is no way the school district can provide information on what the tax levy will be.
