Rockville Centre soccer players give back

Posted

Several hundred members of the Rockville Centre Soccer Club participated in the annual Kids Helping Kids free summer program at Skelos Sports Complex that wrapped up last week. As parents watched and visited with each other on the sidelines, teenage players worked with and taught younger players from 4-8 years old, four nights a week, for two weeks at the end of July. The older players helped their younger counterparts develop their skills in an atmosphere that this year’s organizer, Jen Kahn, described as low-key, relaxed and fun.

Kahn, who grew up in Rockville Centre’s soccer program and had at one time been one of the counselors herself, said her entire family has been involved with the club. She said that her two brothers, Chris and Tyler, helped organize this year’s event that on any given night involved about 150 kids.

“It’s a great experience,” said Kahn, “the older kids enjoy the opportunity. As long as the weather cooperates, it all works out.”
