Rockville Centre village board approves payments, schedules March 29 public budget hearing

In addition to the new building codes that they passed, Mayor Mary Bossart and the board of trustees voted on a pair of action items last week.

To cover the cost of contract companies that were hired to help with snow removal this winter, the board approved separate payments to three companies that provided services: Cibellis received $62,045; Robustello, $28,960; and Bancker, $68,140.

The board and mayor also voted to publish a notice for a Public Budget Hearing on March 29.

Proposed fire department bond

After approving those items, the mayor updated the community on the status of the Rockville Centre Fire Department’s proposal to finance the renovation of two of its buildings — on Maple Avenue and N. Centre Avenue — with the purchase of a bond.

In actuality, there would four bonds involved, and they would be paid off during a four-year span. The total cost for them, if approved by voters, would be $21.1 million, and, if the board passes a resolution, the fire department’s capital projects proposal could become a referendum and placed on the June 21 village election ballots.
