Rockville Centre's love of reading

Posted

On Nov. 12, St. Agnes Cathedral Elementary School held its 11th annual Community Reader’s Day program, and as usual many of Rockville Centre’s most illustrious residents participated.

St Agnes co-principals Sr. Kathleen Carlin and Helen Newman welcomed readers as they arrived. Among the readers who volunteered their time and shared their love of reading with the students included the mayor, a senator, village trustees, village justices, the police commissioner, firemen, librarians from the Rockville Centre Public Library, Molloy College professors, Senior Center and Recreation Department staff members, local dentists, the village comptroller, Public Works and Recreation Dept. superintendents and pastoral staff from St. Agnes Cathedral: Msgr. William Koenig, Revs. McCarthy and McHugh.

Each participant read aloud to a class, and then led a discussion of the book. The St. Agnes Community Reader’s Day program is hosted by the St. Agnes Home/School Association, whose co-presidents are Joanne Peacock and Danielle Chesney. This year’s Reader’s Day was co-chaired by Catherine Casella and Donna Pepe.
